Jim Gavin Leaves Irish Presidential Race With Immediate Effect
The Fianna Fáil nominee Jim Gavin has declared he is pulling out from the race for Ireland's head of state with "immediate effect".
He was poised to be one of three candidates vying for Ireland's head of state, beside Independent TD Catherine Connolly and Heather Humphreys of Fine Gael.
Yet, Sunday night he announced via a statement that he "erred which did not align with his character and the standards he upholds."
"After weighing these points, I have decided to leave the election for president immediately and return to the arms of my family," he declared in his announcement.
