Democratic lawmakers Claim White House Refusing Shutdown Discussions as Chief Executive Restates Threat of Firings

A top White House representative has indicated that large-scale terminations of government staff could commence if the chief executive decides that negotiations to conclude the government shutdown are "absolutely going nowhere|making no progress|stalled completely}."

The White House economic advisor told the news network that he still saw a opportunity that Democrats would yield, but added that Trump was "gearing up to act|take action|intervene" if required.

Deadlocked Talks

Not any tangible signs of negotiations have appeared between congressional leaders since Trump convened with them last week. The closure commenced on 1 October, after Senate Democratic senators voted against a short-term appropriations measure that would keep federal agencies operational through to 21 November.

"Democrats have declined to negotiate with us," Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer stated to the television network, claiming the impasse could be resolved only by further talks between the president and the principal congressional leaders.

Partisan Accusations

The Republican House speaker claimed Democrats of being "unserious" in talks to conclude the federal government closure, while the Democratic representative blamed GOP lawmakers of causing the shutdown.
